For syntheics, It's not oil breakdown, it's dirt in the oil

If you drive in a very dusty area, then you should change your air filters and oil filters often.  But if you change your oil filter, you might as well change the oil too.

I change mine when odometer reaches multiple of 5K.  It is easier for me to remember.

Amsoil wants you change filters more often than oil.
