Have you tried open the laptop and clean the fan

Usually it is very dirty.  Also consider replacing the thermo paste under CPU.

My parents have an old laptop, the fan used to work like crazy and often over heats.  I opened the back, used a vacuum cleaner to clean up all the dust. Then put in new thermo paste.  It works much better now.
