Gold Declines for Second Straight Day -- Market Talk

1436 ET [Dow Jones]--Front-month gold futures settled the day down 0.5% to $2,606.10 an ounce. Increasing anticipation around what new policies may come into play with the incoming Trump administration are putting a lid on gold prices, says Rania Gule of XS.com in a note. "Expectations of new tariffs and stricter trade policies could ignite widespread trade conflicts, amplifying risk aversion among investors," says Gule. But what could mitigate that is if the Federal Reserve keeps a limited view on rate cuts in 2025 with only two expected for next year as of now, says Gule. (kirk.maltais@wsj.com)
