I mailed out I-130 and I-485 concurrently using USPS, all paper applications. For online status check I have to provide a 13-character case number (identifier), but how would I be notified about that number? In the mail? or via email? When am I supposed to receive that -- a week from the mailing date?

-USCIS will send you the Receipt Notice for each case which has the Receipt Number (i.e., the case number). You may need to wait for 3 to 8 weeks to get the receipt notice.
