After you file I-90 for green card renewal application, then bring the expired green card and the I-90 Receipt Notice to travel. You had better do the biometrics for the reentry permit before you leave, not need to wait for the reentgry permit approval. Sometimes, USCIS may use your old biometrics for reentry permit and then, they will let you know about it and you do not need to do the biometrics.
