First of all AMT is not as bad as you think. The additional tax paid above the normal federal tax liabilities will be credit for you in the future when your federal tax liablities is higher than your AMT.
Second, the divorce can help on your filing status. One can file as single and the other can file as head of household. So you will get higher deduciton for one of you which have higher taxable income. It is leagl and IRS will not make any audit adjustments for this.
Third, you have really look at the reason why you have to pay AMT and try to mitigate those items.
Tax law is very complicated. You can not rely on jusy one CPA since they may fool you to get a fee.
