说此话的是“老李”，李顿白。他的原文翻译是：

“我认为他既是一位伟大的历史领袖，也是一位大号的历史罪犯，两者兼具。之所以说他是罪犯，是因为他僭越权力，擅自进行大规模的社会实验，这些实验颠覆了数亿人的生活，而他自己却对可能的结果毫无预见。他认为自己可以随意进行这样的实验。我认为这是犯罪行为，因为它造成了饥荒，导致数千万人死亡；也引发了文化大革命，这场革命的死亡人数至今无人知晓；而且，他每次的尝试都以灾难告终，但他却屡灾屡试。”

李顿白的原文在此：

“I think he was a great historic leader and great historic criminal, both parts.  And I think the reason I say criminal is that he arrogated to himself the right to conduct these enormous social experiments that evolved upturning the lives of hundreds of millions of people, when he himself did not know what the outcome was gonna  be.  He thought it was okey for him to experiment like that.  And that I think was criminal because it created famines, in which tens of millions died, and it created the Cultural Revolution, in which nobody knows how many died, and usually when he took off, it ended in disaster, and he kept trying.”
