A fairweather friend

  It refers to a person who is only a friend when it is convenient and pleasant, disappearing when difficulties arise. They are present during good times but are not reliable during struggles, unlike a true friend who remains loyal through both easy and difficult situations.  

They are often around for social events, parties, and happy occasions.   They are not there when you need support or are going through a hard time. They are not a dependable person you can count on during difficult moments. The friendship is conditional, lacking the depth and loyalty of a true friendship. 

"Fairweather Friend" is a song by American singer Johnny Gill, released as the third single from his self-titled debut album under Motown. The song peaked at number 2 on the US R&B chart, number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
