APAD: Seeing the world through rose-colored glasses
"Seeing the world through rose-colored glasses" means having an overly optimistic, cheerful, or idealistic view, focusing only on the good while ignoring flaws or potential problems. The phrase suggests a sentimental, cheerful lens, where life's unpleasant aspects are filtered out, often associated with being happy or in love, though sometimes it implies a lack of realism or critical thinking about a situation.
The origins of the phrase are unclear but in the 1700’s “rose” and “rosy” meant to be optimistic about outcomes.
Examples:
- Kate enjoys just about every activity; she sees the world through rose-colored glasses.
- If only Marvin wouldn't be so critical, if he could look through rose-colored glasses once in a while, he'd be much happier.

With 20/15 vision in my salad days, I never needed and disliked glasses. Although I have sunglasses, I don't even have a single photo of myself wearing them.
It's funny though that all my family, dad, mom, brother, hubby all wear glasses for near sight issues, my son is more image conscious and wore contact lenses till eye laser surgery before going to Uni.
A tale told by mom: one day when I was about 2 years old, I studied dad's face for a while and took his glasses off his nose suddenly, threw them down and crashed the lens. Poor dad was close to blind without the glasses, so mom had to hold his hand to the store for a new pair.
Unfortunately the tide turned and my luck just ran out. My eye exam recently (the last one was done 10 years ago) found that I need bifocals!
With no choice, I gave in and spent a small fortune on my first pair of prescription glasses. For some unknown reasons, I chose a light pink frame with lenses that turns a pink tint under sunlight (see pic below).
So now I will be seeing the world through rose-colored glasses for real, keeping the positive spirit from Grimm's Fairy Tales, and even more optimistic towards life.
But, if you see any danger coming, please do let me know!

Hope you enjoy my true and fun story on this mid-winter Saturday.
Cheers!
