Upon close scrutiny, many physical measurements turn out to not be exactly integral. But for most purposes, we can accept calculations based on the integers, because it usually does not make a huge difference. For example, time flows slightly slower on supersonic planes than it does on the Earth's surface, but for most purposes we consider the flow of time to be constant except in extreme circumstances.
