About the solitary waves--

I initially though the "solitary waves" referred to the "孤立波“ that is a physical phenomenon. But I latter found that even the first 孤立波 observation was made around the same time Herman published the novelette but the real study only started in the early 20 century. This fact basically said that the solitary waves are not physical subject called "孤立波”。

But it has long been talked about the awesome Solitary waves among the sailors. They are huge waves come from nowhere and caused damage and losses to the ships. Those waves do not seem to connected to the waves around. With this in mind the translation of solitary waves can be made in the following way:

solitary waves = 突然涌现的孤浪。
