Autumn cicada 秋蟬

This is a campus folk song, which has been sung for over 30 years. The song was written by Li, Zi Heng. Li secretly wrote it at his political combat class when he was in the army 30 years ago. He took only 20 minutes to finish it.

“Listen, I (cicada) can make spring water cold. Look, I can turn green leaves yellow. Who said that autumn is sad? Mist covered water inside a forest is serene and peaceful.” The song lyrics vividly use personification to give significant meaning to the beauty of autumn.

聽我把春水叫寒 Listen, I (Cicada) can turn spring water cold.

看我把綠葉催黃 Look, I can turn green leaves yellow. 

誰道秋下一心愁 who said autumn is all sadness? 

煙波林野意幽幽… Mist covered water and trees bring deep calmness. 

花落紅花落紅. Red flowers are fading away,

紅了楓紅了楓.  Maples leaves are turning red,     

展翅任翔雙羽燕. Spreading wings to soar like swallows,

我這薄衣過得殘冬. Can my summer blouse resist the cold tomorrow?

樹歸是秋天(總歸是秋天). It is autumn after all.

春走了夏也去秋意濃. Gone is spring/summer, here comes autumn.

秋去冬來美景不再.  When autumn is gone, no more beauty  will stay.

莫教好春逝匆匆. Hold on to spring.Don’t let it slip away.
