Here's what I did:
1) Cut the old (broken, not fixable) garden hose faucet (also called "sillcock") off with pipe cutter or hand saw depending the accesibility of the joint between the pipe and the sillcock
2) Bought a new sillcock ($27) and a valve ($10, one end with SharkBite fitting, the other regular screw) from home depot (Lowe's has a similar one called "GatorBite").
3) Inserted the pipe into the SharkBite end (~1 inch depth) and screwed the sillcock to the other end. Done.

3) Insert the pipe into sharkbit end (~1 inch depth)and screw the silcook to the other end, you are done.
