【原著小说及情节】
　　本片改编自德国作家Patrick Süskind(帕特里克·聚斯金德)畅销国际的小说《Das Parfum-Die Geschichte eines M246;rders》(英译Perfume：　The Story of a Murderer，香水－－一个杀手的故事)。原著小说自1985年出版以来，始终高居德国畅销书排行榜的前十名，已被译成包括中文在内的四十种文字；作者也因此成为德国近年来最受欢迎的作家。小说致力于引导读者思考人性、理想、道德、价值观及审美倾向等诸方面因素，是一部非常独特的的作品。男主角格雷诺耶的偏执恋情最终宣告破灭，这是本片的要义所在，导演汤姆·提科威尔介绍道。“对于格雷诺耶来说这完全是自然的。起初，当他遇上他心仪的女子，他全身心地为之倾倒，但结果注定是要一败涂地。这是这个故事的基本主题，人们很容易理解。这并不完全是一个幻想世界里的怪人怪事，主人公意外地拥有奇异敏锐的嗅觉，这部电影从一开始就在讲述一个男人的故事，他非常地孤僻，是传统文学作品或者叫座影片中的某个人物，这使主人公的形象更加立体。这种孤独的痛苦很容易引发观众的共鸣。
