How to connect two electrical wires without soldering

A friend of WXC asked me how to connect two wires without soldering.

You first have to find the gauge number of your wire.

There is a wire standard, American Wire Gauge (AWG).

For example, this copper wire is 8 AWG from the chart, since its diameter is 3.26 mm:

Many connector parts are color coded. Colors on the wire connectors are.

You have to have a wire striper, I use number 2 and 3 often:

1. For 10-22 AWG

2. For 10-20 AWG

3. For 20-30 AWG solid, 32-22 AWG stranded

4. For 18-10 AWG

5. For 24-10 AWG, automatic

I have several wire connectors:

there should be more than that. Watch below on youtube:

1. On ebay, it is called Self Locking Electrical Cable Connectors Quick Lock Wire Connection Terminals".

(I did not put the link here, since it is too long. You could select the bold type words above, copy and paste them on ebay or aliexpress, you will find the item).

Just press the thumb button on top, insert your striped wire in one end, and release the button. Do the same thing from the other end. The two wires are connected now.

2. On ebay, it is called Blue Electrical Cable Connectors Quick Splice Lock Wire Terminals Crimp

Push two wires (in this case,16-14 AWG for the blue connector), into the hole, the wires are not needed to be striped. Use a plier to push the aluminum part down and your two wires will be connected. Flip the cap onto the blue connector, so the wires will be insulated,

3. Twist-on wire connector. Again, choose the colored connector to match your wire size. it turns out this yellow one is for 22-10 AWG. Stripe your wire with a wire striper. Insert two striped wires into the hole. Twist the wire connector while holding two wires,  your two wires will be connected.

4. On aliexpress, it is called Non-Insulated Wire Connector Ferrules Electrical Cable Terminal Copper Bare Tinned Crimp Terminal 0.5mm2-16mm2 22-10 AWG

Use some connector ferrules with a crimper.

There are many ferrules with different types of metals such as copper, bronze, aluminum... on the market.

Choose the size of a connector ferrule which should be little bit bigger in diameter than that of two striped wires. Insert the two striped wires into the connector ferrule. Open the crimper jaws by squeezing the handles. Put the connector ferrule along with inserted wires in a proper slot on the crimper. Hold and press the two handles to crimp the connector ferrule. The wires will be crimped together. WARNING: never put your finger in between two jaws of the crimper when crimping!. The crimper will not release the jaws until the wire connector ferrule is crimped!

The crimped wires:

5. Use a crimper, which is similar to item 4.

Colors (red, blue and yellow) on the jaw of the crimper and two wires could be connected:

Two wires could be first crimped onto two male and female terminals and then be connect together:

(Alternative useage of terminal connectors, a violin string was fixed with this crimper, not meant to conducting an AC or DC current:)

6.  Another connector, on ebay, it is called 12 Positions Dual Rows 600V 15A Wire Barrier Block Terminal Strip TB-1512L

you could connect two wires on the post (with green arrows) with screws, or you could connect 12 wires on the left side of the terminal post and  connect the red piece on the right side of the terminal post. Number 6 on the bottom is a small one for 4 pairs of wires.

7. Another connector, on ebay, is called 5 7 10 Position Electric Copper Ground Terminal Strip Bar Block Wire Connector

to connect two wires (green arrows) with screws.

The yellow terminals were crimped by the crimper in item 5:

A side view of the yellow terminals (item 5):

An example of item 6, notice on the bottom (black wires), there are another 12 wires connected together:
