『道德经 第十四章 』(视之不见,名曰夷)

 第十四章
 
【原文】
视之不见,名曰夷①;听之不闻,名曰希②;搏之不得,名日微③。此三者不可致诘(jié)④,故混而为一⑤。其上不皦(jiǎo)⑥,其下不昧(mèi)⑦,绳(mǐn)绳兮不可名⑧,复归于无物。是谓无状之状,无物之象,是谓惚恍⑨。迎之不见其首,随之不见其后。执古之道⑩,以御今之有。能知古始,是谓道纪。
 
【注释】  
①夷:看不见。
②希:听不到。
③微:摸不着。“夷”、“希”、“微”三字均形容感官所不能把握的“道”。
④诘(jié):追。
⑤一:即“道”。
⑥皦(jiǎo):光亮,光明。
⑦昧(mèi): 昏暗,阴暗。
⑧绳绳(mǐn)、渺茫、不清楚。
⑨惚恍:闪烁不定的样子。
⑩古之道:就是太初的大道。
 
【译文】
怎么看也看不见,我们把它叫作“夷”;怎么听也听不到,我们把它叫作“希”;怎么摸也摸不着,我们把它叫作“微”。这三者的形象难以区分开来,它原本就是混沌一体的。它的上面并不显得明亮,它的下面也不显得昏暗,它绵延不绝而又不可名状,又总要回到看不见物体的虚无状态。这是没有形状的形状,没有具体物象的形象,这就叫作“惚恍”。从前方去接近它,看不见它的头;从后面去追赶它,看不见它的尾。根据早已存在的“道”的运行规律,来考察现在的具体事物,我们就能了解宇宙的原始,这就叫作道的规律。
 
English Translation

What can be seen but not perceived is called “Yi”;
What can be heard but not understood is called “Xi”;
What can be touched but not grasped is called “Wei.”
These three are beyond comprehension,
Together they become one.
Above the One, there is no light;
Beneath the One, there is no darkness;
The infinity of the One is ineffable,
Returning to the intangible non-being.
This is called the form without a form,
The image without an image like a shadow.
Approaching from the front, you cannot see the face;
Approaching from behind, you cannot see the back.
Hold fast to the Tao of antiquity,
For then you will command all realities of the present
And know their coming and going.
That is the essence of Tao’s teaching.
