稚子牵衣问，归来何太迟。
共谁争岁月，赢得鬓边丝。

 

Returning Home by Du Mu

 

Tugging at my robe, my young son asks me,

Father, why dost thou return home so late?

Who hath vied for the time and tide with thee?

Thou won grey threads on thy temples and pate.
